Artist Statement

My work is shaped by the experience of growing up in Cuba and building a life in Miami, a city that feels both culturally familiar and emotionally transformative. Limited by an environment of scarcity and political oppression, I grew up surrounded by and nurtured with values of profound spirituality, art, and nature. Immigration, motherhood, and my evolving identity as a queer woman have deeply influenced my artistic practice, leading me to explore both visual art and the humanities as ways of understanding personal and collective experience.

In my paintings, I create intuitive and symbolic spaces where memory, imagination, and the natural world intersect. Color, texture, and line emerge organically, translating emotional and sensory experiences into metaphorical imagery. The female figure remains central in my work, embodying both vulnerability and resilience, motherhood, and transformation. These figures exist as emotional and universal landscapes that reflect themes of displacement, healing, identity, and the interconnectedness between humanity, spirituality, and nature.

Recently, I have begun revisiting and reassembling imagery from past works to build new narratives and perceptual possibilities, exploring how memory and meaning evolve within a rapidly changing technological world.

Mi obra está moldeada psicológicamente por mi experiencia con la inmigración - crecer en Cuba, irme, y construir una vida aquí en Miami, una ciudad que percibo como culturalmente familiar y, a la vez, emocionalmente transformadora. Limitada por un entorno de escasez y opresión política en Cuba, crecí rodeada, infundida, y nutrida por el arte, la naturaleza, y valores de profunda espiritualidad. La inmigración, la maternidad, y mi identidad como mujer queer han influido profundamente en mi práctica artística, llevándome a explorar tanto las artes visuales como las humanidades como vías para comprender la experiencia personal y colectiva.

En mis pinturas, creo espacios intuitivos y simbólicos donde convergen la memoria, la imaginación y el mundo natural. El color, la textura y la línea emergen de manera orgánica, traduciendo experiencias emocionales y sensoriales en imágenes metafóricas. La figura femenina ocupa un lugar central en mi obra, encarnando tanto la vulnerabilidad como la resiliencia, la maternidad y la transformación. Estas figuras existen como paisajes emocionales y universales que reflejan temas de desplazamiento, sanación, identidad y la interconexión entre la humanidad, la espiritualidad y la naturaleza.

Recientemente, he comenzado a revisitar y reensamblar imágenes de obras pasadas para construir nuevas narrativas y posibilidades perceptivas, explorando cómo evolucionan la memoria y la importancia de los sentidos dentro de un mundo tecnológico en constante y acelerado cambio.
